The EPA Lead Certification Refresher Course is offered completely online and it does not require any hands-on components, which means it can be taken entirely in the convenience of your home or workplace. The refresher course is available to you for the renewal of a previous EPA Lead Renovator Initial Certification, complying with the EPA’s Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule. The EPA requires that you renew your lead certification prior to expiration or you could face fines of up to $37,500 per day for noncompliance and will have to recertify through the initial course.
This 4-hour online refresher course is EPA-approved and is valid for 3 years. You can stop and start the training session at any time, picking up where you left off and completing the lead certification at your own pace. As outlined by the EPA, contractors may only take the EPA Lead Certification as an online refresher course every other time, needing to attend an in-person lead renovator refresher course every other recertification period.
As a pre-requisite for the course, individuals must currently be lead-safe certified and must complete this online course prior to the initial certification’s expiration. Most EPA-authorized state programs do not recognize online lead certification as an acceptable lead renovator renewal alternative. Verify with your authorized state program.
